This year RT Singapore was represented by Tablers Vaibhav (Charity convenor), Vikas (RTS VP) and Alexis (RTSG IRO). Only 9 months after we hosted the ASPA region in Singapore we have seen many familiar and new faces. As Sebastian put it in his speech, this was a smaller event and is an excellent way of connecting on a deeper level with Tablers.
It is only my second time in Nepal. The first time I was in Nepal for the Round Table International World Meet in 2016. The main venue was a boutique hotel which was situated in the Thamel area of Kathmandu. The weekend kicked off with a welcome and fellowship night. It was great to see many familiar faces and meeting old friends for the first time.
Day of the meeting
The next day at 9.30 sharp, ASPA chairman Ranil opened the meeting. The courtyard of the hotel was the space where the meeting was held. It gave the meeting a very nice atmosphere. It was great to see all 10 nations present at the meeting for the first time after ages.
All nations presented their annual reports and it is so inspiring to see what is happening in the region. Tabler Jayant from RT Nepal was elected to become the next ASPA chairman. Keeping with tradition, after the meeting, there was a banner exchange between visiting nations and the organizers and host nation.
After the meeting, we were treated to a local Traditional plated lunch. The rest of the afternoon we enjoyed an amazing tour of the Unesco heritage site of Bhaktapur. This historic old town made such an impression. We have seen 100s of years old wooden temples, enjoyed a local curd tradition and have seen how sand mandalas are created.
Gala and Awards
After freshening up, the gala evening started. Other than the usual ASPA awards, the chairman handed out presidential recognition awards for Tablers who have shown excellent effort and contribution to ASPA region. I was pleased to learn that I was awarded Tabler of the Year award.
The event was wrapped up with an after party at club LOD.
